Fixing new bugs introduced with this forced icon doesn't solve the main issue. People do not want to see the icon. It is hard to judge from this bug tracker what people want, but I'm pretty sure by forcing this icon to be displayed you will make a LOT of people unhappy that's a given. Personally I find it ugly and useless.
