And since the last few comments, now there *is* such a thing as a window icon on Wayland: https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/wayland/wayland-protocols/-/merge_requests/269 Ultimately we need to determine if we want to have one source of truth for the icon or not. If we do, we have to deal with the messiness of window icons vs desktop file icons vs the placeholder icon, and them being able to differ (which can be a source of the issue here).
