Bug ID: 497830 Summary: Poor performance regarding image manipulation in general Classification: Applications Product: gwenview Version: 24.12.0 Platform: openSUSE OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: general Assignee: gwenview-bugs-n...@kde.org Reporter: dpe...@opensuse.org Target Milestone: --- Hello, I am 15+ years with KDE and as (also) a Photographer I work a lot with images in KDE ... But more or less basic stuff, to display images mostly and view them in gwenview, thumbnails in Dolphin, showfoto/digikam .. I use other applications to process images (Darktable, RawTherapee, Art, GIMP, etc ...) .. I've additionally opened this bug in SUSE bugzilla https://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1230545 .. I've upgraded my KDE platform to 6.8.1 Qt, gwenview 24.12, KDE frameworks 6.9.0 SUMMARY: my problem is that KDE are horribly slow while processing an images .. In general, 100% reproducible .. gwenview seems to me as the industry-slowest app for instance .. I've run couple of tests on computer with 13th gen i7 cpu, m2 ssd (++ usb 3.2 usb drive) and 32GBs of memory (mostly idle) .. here are results STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. folder with mix of nikon D850 raw files + jpeg images - generating and thumbnails in dolphin - 2:10 seconds gnome's nautilus - 38 seconds RT when opening as a folder view - 32 seconds 2. traversing through 50 loseless compressed raw files (it displays embedded jpg anyway) gwenview - 2:08 seconds geeqie - 35 seconds 3. traversing to several hundreds of JPGs .. I've took as a start point geeqie - 60 seconds gwenview - incredible 2:28 gnome's default image viewer (eye of gnome ??) - 1:22 EXPECTED RESULT image manipulation in KDE is exceptionally slow compared to other DEs .. It should be about similar performance SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Qt: 6.8.1 Kde Frameworks: 6.9 +++ I was testing that additionally in stock KDE from openSUSE Leap 15.6 Qt: 5.15.12 Kde Frameworks: 5.115.0 ^^ performance here was even worse ... I continued with updated KDE ADDITIONAL INFORMATION I am not attaching any logs or anything because problem seems to me 100% reproducible .. It's a general problem with KDE working with images ... thanks for support .. cheers, ~dan -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
