... our staff always talks about good old ArcView 3.x and use GIS only for
editing data in small areas like a village to draw some polygons or points.
One good thing is that there is no "on the fly transformation", because our
stuff work with simulation models for rockfalls or hydrology, too. This models
work with coordinates as they are. Mapping is not the job of them. I am the
only person which make sometimes maps...
Another reason: I programmed over 3 years in Java....
And i feel i get always in a very short time an answer from you, but maybe this
will be a reason to choose QGIS.
I will make a short report after our talk in Vienna...
Best regards,
Manfred

Hi,
next week i will present as coordinator of Tyrol your software in Vienna in the
headquarter of the Austrian Service for Torrent and Avanlanche control.
We will discuss there to reduce our ESRI-licenses for our offices in Austria
and use more Open Source Software and i will recommend to use Open Jump GIS.
Do you have some nice powerpoint presenations in German about Open Jump GIS,
which i am allowed to use?
I think one problem is, that you are only four developers? What do you think?
Best regards,
Manfred Egger

Hi Mandfred
there was some stuff long time back in German last one I remember is by
Matthias Scholz: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4eKfKuh8h7g
And while I send the answer offlist:
Maybe another option is to recommend QGIS as well... it is very well
adopted by Swiss Cantons and has plenty of support companies.
cheers,
stefan

huh... I didn't send it offlist :(
I hope nobody feels offended that I think that QGIS needs to be
considered too, main reason for this is available 24/7 support. But - to
say: OpenJUMP still is much stronger in editing data than QGIS.. But for
creating maps, definitively QGIS.
cheers,
Stefan

No problem Stefan. I think we all have an holistic view on open software.
