Made some more test
% (pure ascii) : works
$ (pure ascii) : works
€ (first non ascii) : fails
é (belongs to both iso-8859-1/latin-1, windows-1252) : fails
œ (windows 1252 but not iso-8859-1) : fails

Seems safe to check that the path is pure ascii (minus forbidden character)
