Hi Jukka, regarding closed linestring ABCDA (not linering), as you pointed,
there is the conversion tool by Ede (convert geometry to linering,
multipoints, etc) on right click context menu, (draw a polygon and that
convert to a linestring)
Or you can use this set of tools (
http://sourceforge.net/projects/opensit/files/Openjump/PlugIn/CADExtension/)
that I made some months ago: within the editing toolbar there will be a
"draw closed linestring" too (ABCDA)l.
The trick you described for "lazo" closed linestring seems the only way to
draw ABCDAB linestring, I think
