well, mac os has this menubar on the desktop top. it is shared and shows the 
menu of the currently active (in front) application. but additionally it always 
shows the apple menu on the left, a search function on the right and some other 
menu items all the time.
one of these is a menu entry called like the active application. it houses 
among others a quit and a about application menu entry. apple e.g. catches the 
Apple+Q shortcut and routes it to the quit menu entry, so you will have to use 
these or closing via shortcut wont work.

to use the above you have to use the com.apple.eawt package, which is only 
shipped with some obscure apple development tools. fortunately some kind soul 
hacked up alternative placeholders and kept them updated with apple's changes
