Thank you for the information.  You are right about the GUI, it does not suit 
for plain touch screen usage. It is the same with all desktop GIS software I 
have been testing. QGis has some features which are helping when working 
outdoors, like a user configurable panel for attribute input (with a plugin) 
but it does not make it a real mobile tool. I do not have Android tablet so I 
have not tried QGis for Android.
Layer visibility toggling is actually a minory problem because it can be 
performed rather well through the right click menu also while on the move.
OJ for tablets would be really interesting. Does anybody know if Windows 8 will 
run normal Java programs?
