Hi all,
recently I discover this post from deegree user list which seems quite
interesting:
http://osgeo-org.1803224.n2.nabble.com/ECW-support-update-td3669099.html

Basically it describes how to use GvSIG JNI wrapper for the ECW into deegree
and check out all licence problems.

I gave a test to openjump too.

so

a) I deleted ermapper from OJ/lib folder

b) I copied this files from a GvSIG 1.10 installation to Openjump 1.4
jecw-0.0.7.jar
jecw.dll
NCScnet.dll
NCSEcw.dll
NCSEcwC.dll
NCSUtil.dll
The first of the list to OJ/lib folder. The others to OJ/lib/ext.

The I tried to load ecw files and it works very fine!
I discover also that the view doesn't disapear when zooming to the border of
the ecw or outside the view (as it happens to ermapper.jar).

So I wonder if we can move to this solution even for openjump.

I also gave a try to Linux:

I copied Linux libraries and links from an Ubuntu GvSIG installation. These are
the files (the list is longer than windows):
libjecw.so
libjecw.so.0
libjecw.so.0.0.7
libNCSCNet.so
libNCSCNet.so.0
libNCSCNet.so.0.7
libNCSEcw.so
libNCSEcw.so.0
libNCSEcwC.so
libNCSEcwC.so.0
libNCSUtil.so
libNCSUtil.so.0
And tried to load ecw under Linux.
Openjump recognize the ecw plugin. It is possible to load the files. But these
files are not displayed into the view. Note that this happens even with
ermapper.jar.

I am quite sure that the libraries I choose are correct.
I suspect that Openjump cannot load ecw (and use any wrapper to external
libraries) because it doesn't recognize linux libraraies (.so) and maybe Mac
too (.jnilib e .djlib).
Is it correct? Is it possible to find a solution (for Linux and Mac)?

Anyhow just give a try to Windows solution, you canm download the files here:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/opensit/files/Openjump/ecw_plugin.zip/download

regards
Peppe
