I have not used the Java Map Projection Library. However, I know that
the deegree Project has full support for map projections and would
plug-in very well with OpenJUMP. There is even a manual that was
written that explains how to use the library.

I believe the map projection code in deegree is actually a well
developed fork of the map projection code that is now in GeoTools. The
deegree team has done a lot with the code since then. For example,
they've taken a lot of the math transform information in the EPSG
database and put it into an XML file. You can tweak this XML format to
support new projections or a limited set of projections.

My lowly advice is that we use the deegree code for integrating map
projections into OpenJUMP, if we use anything at all. But this is just
my own opinion.

I actually hope to work on this myself, but I haven't made time yet.
I'd be very interested in your efforts in this area.

(I will note that UDig already has the ability to project vector data
using the GeoTools code.)
