Alas, I'm super busy this weekend - I'll try to squeeze in some time to work on this, but no guarantees.
It would probably be easiest for all involved if I can find time to do option 1. I'll probably try the latest version of Instiki (which can use MySQL instead of Madeleine), which may solve the crashing problems.
