Hi,

the last 30mins I had a look on the EU Alfa program:
http://ec.europa.eu/europeaid/where/latin-america/regional-cooperation/alfa/index_en.htm

A short overview is given by these slides:
http://ec.europa.eu/europeaid/where/latin-america/regional-cooperation/alfa/documents/new-programme-documents/alfaiii-inbrief_en.ppt

unfortunately, so do I think, it will be difficult to meet their
requirements. Because we need to have at least 6 Institutes of Higher
Education (Universities) involved, of which need to be at least four
from 4 different Latin American countries and 2 from EU countries.

I am also not that sure how "WE" could fit in (and the Budgets are
comaparable hughe: more than 1Mill. Euro). I guess LOT 1 would probbaly
the best possibility.

Btw. I have seen that there was already a founded consortium for GIS
teaching (GILA) lead by the University of Munster (Germany)

++++++++++++++++++ IMPORTANT +++++++++++++

However... as we may further watch out for types of funding (e.g. to get
a first OJ meeting done :) I would like to know *WHO is interested* in a
particpation on *international programs* that could support our project
and GIS teaching efforts with OJ?

If you are interest in such a collaboration, then send me the following
info (can be also a personal email to [EMAIL PROTECTED]):
a) Name,
b) Your Position (this may be important, as people need to have the
possibility to establish university accounts to receive finances or
offcially supervise students: be an examiner)
c) Institution (even companies may be of interest for some EU projects),
d) Country of Residence (see requirements for EU projects)
e) An approximation for how long you may stay at the institution (e.g.
until 2010)

and may be as well: What is your speicifc (reserach/teaching) interest?
(What do you use OpenJUMP for?). For what would you apply if you have a
"wish"?

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

If I have these info I can establish a first list and see if we meet at
least the basic criteria. Then we can look over the summer for types of
funding.

Of course, I can not promise that we will find something suitable and
even if we find something, then it may take a lot of time to apply
(usually EU projects have at least 6months pre-run). But we need to
start somehow at some point and we need to think about OJ's longterm
future. I think over the next months I will also try to think about some
(research-/teaching-) topics and publishing the ideas on the wiki.

Thank you, Christiano, for pointing towards such possibilities. And also
a big thank you to Landon (Sunburned Surveyor) who brought us in the
Google Summer of Code with the OSGEO!

best regards,
Stefan
