That is a darn good question. I'm not a legal expert, but I believe
that we can use just a library under just about any license wihtin
JUMP. I don't think the "viral" properties of the GPL license come
into play until something else tries to incorporate code from
OpenJUMP.

I invite other programmers on the mailing list to correct me if I am mistaken.

Having said that, I think it would be a good policy to choose
libraries that fall under a common open source license. I believe
using a proprietary software library might go against the spirit of
the project. (However, this may have already been done in the original
JUMP. I believe that there is a section in the back of the old JUMP
users manual that addresses software libraries under non-GPL libraries
used in the original JUMP, and consequently OpenJUMP.)
