I just wanted to let everyone know that there is no need for members of our community that use English as a second language to apologize for their grammar and spelling.
I think we all recognize that OpenJUMP has a global user and developer community and that this is something that appeals to many of us. If you will be patient with my abilities to understand what you are trying to say I will be patient with your efforts to say it in a language that is not your own. :] I'm sure everyone feels the same way. I have always wondered if it would be appropriate to offer corrections of grammar and spelling to speakers that use English as a second language. I have always avoided this in the past because I didn't want to offend everyone. Now that the topic is being discussed I want to ask if this would be appropriate. Would tactfully offering a correction be totally snobbish? Would it be welcomed by the author of the message? Should it be done off of the list? Should I just keep doing what I've been doing? :] Thanks, The Sunburned Surveyor P.S. - If we ever had a sizeable group of our users or developers from a single language group we can start a language specific mailing list. I'd like to avoid this unless we have a lot of users in that langauge groups, so that our community doesn't splinter uneccesarily, but it might be more productive in the right circumstances. I would think that if we did this it would be good to have one person from that language group appointed to report back to the main development list with a summary of the discussion on the language specific list. This could be done on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis depending on the interest. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- This SF.net email is sponsored by DB2 Express Download DB2 Express C - the FREE version of DB2 express and take control of your XML.
