Hei Mourad,

mhm.. your skills are good (compared to my ;), one month is not that
much and 4 persons is a lot :)

Actually another interesting thing would be to look how jump can be made
more ram independent. Because it loads currently data directly in the
ram. Which causes problems if working with files. But here the problem
seem to be the time. Although if you are 4 persons you are 4 brains to
think about such a concept which needs realy to be well thought trough,
since the new concept should not make it necessary to change the core
dramatically. Actually there has been done some work by Michael Michaud
and a spanish guy on that (so we coud ask Michael for hints - if this
toppic is still interesting for you)

But if you are familiar with database stuff (as seen from your skills
list.. then i would propose to develope an oracle reader (and if you
have oracle at your uni).
The newer jump versions (accessible as CVS or the nightly built) contain
a new developed datastore concept by vividsolutions. You work could be
based on that. Vividsoltutions has made a postgis connection (spatial
postgres extension) for that (only for reading). Apart from this stuff,
there is a plugin on the sourceforge account which can read and write to
postgis, but does not use the datastore architecture. And some oracle
stuff can be found from the geotools webpage

but before doing a decision we should wait if tomorrow (monday) somebody
gives a comment (so i will "cc" the email to the jpp- and jump- devel list)

so.. lets see tomorrow

stefan

PS:
@all: Actually one of the projects i would like to get to a student (or
group of students), is
1. to do a listing of all plugins existing for Jump - and look if the
work togehter with OpenJUMP, and
2. to compare the functionality of JUMP (with the plugins) to ArcGIS,
MapInfo, etc. To get a list of missing standard GIS functionality of
JUMP/OpenJump.
