Isn't riot a matrix client application? When I started looking into a slack replacement, matrix just didn't seem there yet, and it wasn't clear whether it was even going to make it, so I chose Mattermost because it seemed like the best choice out of all the competitors: good codebase, good test suite, incredible documentation, easy-to-understand ecosystem and the company has a clear business model.
Now that Matrix is getting more traction, and seeing as they are getting financial independence, I'd really like to see if we can integrate Mattermost into Matrix more.
