Several of the other java mailing lists are seeing similar
issues. You'd think that with a bunch of mailing lists devoted to
java, you wouldn't be seeing these obvious MS Outlook VBscript mail
viruses bouncing back and forth. I don't have a problem with these
mail viruses, other than the fact that they clutter up my mail box.
The answer is quite obvious, don't use an inherently flawed and
insecure email client like MS Outlook.

There are products, mail gateways that scan incoming email for
viruses and filter the out. They are usually very expensive to
purchase and very expensive to run (CPU-intensive). I don't expect
Sun to set something like that up for a non-profit, external mailing
list like this.

What Sun *could* do is set their mailing list software to not
allow attachments. Since any valid attachment could as easily be
handled by putting the file on a website or ftp archive somewhere,
this shouldn't be a hardship, and it will completely block these inane
mail viruses.

And while we're at it, could we block out messages with no
subject line? :-) And how about mesages with "unsubscribe" in the
subject or as the only line? And maybe messages with more than two
sequential exclamation points... :-).
