You can simplify this part:

    if ($('#chkStatus5').is(':checked')){
        return true;
    } else {
        return false;
    }

to:

    return $('#chkStatus5').is(':checked');

As you can see, that's almost the same as your previous attempt; the only
thing missing was the "return".
