Have you tried:
jQuery("#searchresults").slideUp(function() {
jQuery("#searchresults").html(r).slideDown();
});
Also for form elements, instead of doing:
var name = jQuery("#search").attr('value')
You can simply do:
var name = jQuery("#search").val();
