Yes. :-)

But your eyes are not my eyes. Many people are not bothered by the dark
borders, but many are. There were a fair number of complaints about this
specific issue in the discussions on the jQuery blog when the new site was
released.

Even if only 5% of people are bothered by this, that should be a good enough
reason to change it. Nobody is bothered by a lower contrast background (they
may find it less stylish, but it won't hurt anyone's eyes).

I have the same problem with Acrobat in full screen mode. It puts the
usually-white page in the middle of a sea of black, which is very
uncomfortable for me to look at. Ironically, Acrobat 9 added a setting so
you can change this full screen background color - but they also added
nearly-black backgrounds to the normal page view! Adobe giveth, and Adobe
taketh away...
