The page will still be blocked because the "show" calls around line 200 are for the message layer. The overlay is a different layer and does not have any fadeIn facilities built into the plugin at this time. So if you change those two show calls to fadeIn, you should see a fade for your message, but the overlay will display immediately. At least that's what I expect would happen.
