Rick: The only way to do that is with writing a php (or whatever server side language you use) script and using dimensions.js to determine the size of the browser window. You might have to write your own plugin or solution for this one.
But there are many photogallery plugins that work very well with little semantical code. I like slideviewer (http://www.gcmingati.net/ wordpress/wp-content/lab/jquery/imagestrip/imageslide-plugin.html) this is off topic but I've looked into photofolder as a good PHP solution.
