When I read your message the first thing that goes through my mind is
"here's a person who wants to be using the tool with the most hype". I
realize I could be wrong on that, but really, shouldn't we be evaluating
if the tool does what we need and has support, rather than if it has "hype"?

For myself, I've tried Prototype, and looked at others. jQuery works
the way I need it to, and basically gets out of my way and lets me code
my apps with little fuss. So, I'll be using jQuery for years to come.
Regardless of what the hype cycle is at.

This list isn't going away. And even if it did, there's the #jQuery
channel on IRC. And even if THAT went away, there's the #javascript
channel on IRC where some excellent coders know enough about Javascript
and even jQuery to probably help out. So, in terms of support, well
that's not going away either. So I'm comfortable with my choice to
stick with jQuery for the foreseeable future.

As for an active list.. well, I have 6951 messages in my jQuery folder
(which is for this list only) since 1 Sep 2007. And I just finished
deleting a few thousand more from beforehand. How much more active can
the list get?? :)

HTH.
