I would just like to say that the following article on upgrading to 1.2 and rewriting for the removed Dom traversal methods and Xpath electors was very well written.

It seems overall the goal in 1.2 was to make the library compatible with itself, since CSS/Javascript syntax is so different than XPath syntax in the end they were incompatible with each other.
