Andy - When I was first using the plugin, I noticed that it didn't seem to do anything when I first clicked on the column header. If your table loads up already sorted correctly, the impression will be that nothing is happening on that first click - when in fact it just looks like nothing is happening, because the first click will just return the table sorted in the same way as when it was loaded onto the page.
Try clicking on the column headers multiple times and see if you notice any activity.
