serveral reasons: 1. json will become part of the JavaScript Programming Language in the Fourth Edition of the ECMAScript standard, we should encourage using it 2. jquery getJSON() is not too secure, e.g. data = eval("(" + data + ")"); 3. size is not that large. 1.x kb only
