Hmm. I guess this is a public API change, but then again, it *should* have been 
included in KIP-328.

I propose we just add it to KIP-328 and send out a notice to the vote thread 
instead of doing a new KIP?

 

We should try to remember the Scala API when considering API changes in KIPs 
going forward. This has been an ongoing theme...
