It seems to have started when we refactored the release script in
[https://github.com/apache/kafka/pull/16287]
The first issue I spot is that in
[https://github.com/apache/kafka/blob/trunk/release/git.py#L133] we are missing
"f" before "Pushing tag \{tag} to \{remote}" so the printed string is not
interpolated. While this won't fix the issue, fixing this should make it
visible if the remote is not valid when we push the tag.
