I use the connector instance in the metrics PR to get the version of the
connector in
[TaskPluginsMetadata](https://github.com/apache/kafka/blob/395a7223d99a508cf0d993b876abb105a1639bb1/connect/runtime/src/main/java/org/apache/kafka/connect/runtime/TaskPluginsMetadata.java).
I think instantiating a connector here to get the version is okay here but we
can come back to this once we review the metrics PR.
