I've seen this work in multiple Kafka deployments, and Cloudera Manager also
exposes a setting for this in their Kafka parcel.
I agree that it is probably just a documentation oversight. It is quite hard to
find anything on this in the Zookeeper docs as well, only thing I came across
is [this footnote-like
