Hello, I use the mask plugin and standard mercurial plugin for bitbucket. Polling is working without any problem. I do not use webhook, it is not necessary.
But maybe your problem could be in proxy if you are behind it. If yes, I would suggest to add proxy to the connection of hg. Here is my setting for connecting to bitbucket. I hope it will help you.
