I agree with the advice to stay with the long term stable release, but for a different reason. You were running a long term stable release before, and you've stayed on that version for a long time, so you should stay with LTS because the life-cycle will be more familiar.
You should not need any intermediate upgrade, just upgrade from 1.466.2 to 1.509.x. There may be a prompt in the "Manage Jenkins" section that you need to generate new security keys. Do that. There will probably be "old data" in "Manage Jenkins" that you'll need to dismiss as well. You should probably create a backup of your current environment just in case something goes badly wrong in the upgrade.
