"I can not clean up my job history" may well be the problem, in more ways than
one.

In older versions of the server, you had to load up basic information
(everything but the console log and the artifacts, I believe) on every job run
in your history before you fully came online. A recent change (around 1.500,
will somebody check me on this one?) does "lazy loading", where it will come up
while still loading job histories.

This may not be the worst of your problems. As this basic information gets
eventually loaded into your JVM, this implies that all this data gets loaded
into core. If you cannot prune your builds and you have a lot of them (which
may be why startup is so slow), you will eventually run out of heap space. I
learned that one the hard way.
