Yes... it seems that when you install OpenJDK as specified on 
https://wiki.jenkins-ci.org/display/JENKINS/Installing+Jenkins+on+RedHat+distributions<http://wiki.jenkins>it
 for some reason installs only the JRE. I had to do the following to get 
it to work: 

yum remove java

then

yum install java-1.6.0-openjdk-devel.x86_64

and now my builds do not fail anymore... Nice!
