This is a good question. I also has been trying to design/implement something with a requirement to prioritize the Nodes/slaves based on local-disk, shared-disk, memory, the number of cores, etc....
The intent is to be able for Jenkins to choose the best slave based on these criteria. I have this idea on paper only. I have not progressed so quickly with this idea as I am hoping that I can find a public-source 'cloud' system that would support this requirement. At present I am investigating CHEF. I also would like to hear from anyone on this topic.
