That setting defaults to true, so your setting it to true from the command line of the JVM should not change anything. Can you investigate other possibilities for the cause of the deadlock?
Can you also explain what you are seeing which causes you to say that your "git poll jobs are lazy again"? Your setting that property to its default value from the command line should not alter the behavior of the system.
