The method "Convert the Template to a VM. Take a snapshot. Convert back to a Template" worked.
In my test, the Linked Clone checkbox was unchecked and the Resource Pool was left blank.
It's not clear to me whether what bub describes in the comment above is a bug. But at a minimum it would be helpful to edit the plugin documentation to describe the method of creating a template with a snapshot.
