As a side note, and since you have a high number of slaves, you may be aware that the monitoring plugin asks basic data from slaves, each minute by default. Since you also have what seems like communication issues with the slaves, you may note that you can keep the monitoring plugin but disable this "periodic monitoring of slaves" if you want (even at runtime). See Release notes for v1.52.
This will not fix the communication issues with the slaves, but this may help to reduce the calls to the slaves and perhaps delay the time when the issue appears. If the issue is not related to the master-slave communication, this will of course not change anything.
