This is related to https://issues.jenkins-ci.org/browse/JENKINS-14302 The pipeline plugin needs a 'manually trigger a parameterized downstream job". This would handle the build number propagation. This would address a large number of the build pipeline complaints regarding the selection of which build was referenced within pipelined stages.
