Agreed, there are too many 'almost there' plugins that are mutually exclusive. If pipeline, job promotion, and build flow could be integrated we would have a complete solution.
Job promotion needs to be an option in the build pipeline.
Also, the build number needs to be passed along the pipeline stages. There are all kinds of kludgy solutions to work around this.
The pipeline plugin also needs a 'manually trigger a parameterized downstream job". This would handle the build number propagation.
