Hi Which Dectalk synthesizer are you using? The original Dectalk synthesizers were made by the company Digital Equipment Corporation, which no longer exists. The JAWS 2018 Synthesizer and Braille manager supports the external Dectalk Express synthesizer and the internal Dectalk Access32 software synthesizer which were made by Digital Equipment Corporation and the Dectalk USB 64 synthesizer made by someone else.
I am successfully using a Dectalk Express external synthesizer which I got sometime in the mid-1990s. It did get put in storage for a couple of years, while I used the Dectalk Access32 Software synthesizer until I upgraded to Windows 7, which would no longer support that synthesizer. But when I plugged the Dectalk Express into the Windows 7 using a Serial to USB adaptor, nothing happened. It was found that since the Dectalk Express was getting old, the battery needed to be removed and the Dectalk Express needed to be plugged into electrical power. When that was done, the Dectalk Express has worked since then. -----Original Message----- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Shai Sent: Friday, June 29, 2018 12:35 To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Dektalk Synthesizer problem Hello, What issue are you having with the DecTalk external synthesizer and JAWS? I am using a DecTalk external synthesizer and I am not having any issue with it. The machine is using Windows10 1803 and the latest version of JAWS 2018. Do you have a braille display by chance? I noticed that sometimes the comport for the USB serial port and Bluetooth get conflicted which makes the DecTalk express not work. If this occurs, removing the Bluetooth device from that comport if it's already on another port in ports and devices in device manager and restarting the computer resolves it for me.
