Michael,

I appreciate that you cannot please everyone but I would question
whether most users would prefer to have a smaller jar size versus having
debug symbols out of the box. Xerces does have a wide variety of use
cases which probably justifies a need to distribute without debug
symbols, however for server side applications which already have a ton
of jars, the slight increase in file size for Xerces is not significant.
Many of the core open source server side java libraries only ship with
debug symbols, not having Xerces in there as well is a big pain when
debugging.

We can off course recompile, however I'd think the use-case for debug
symbols is stronger than that for jars without. I can see why there is
no need to rock the boat, so could I suggest a compromise by
distributing Xerces-J with the current jars and also providing the -g
jars?
