The regex bug reports tend to sit around for years because none of the
current developers know this part of the code very well. It's most likely
to get fixed in the foreseeable future if someone from the community
contributes a working patch (someone started working on one last year
though I don't recall them ever contributing it) with some tests to help
verify it.
