I think all this just shows that our testing is inadequate at the moment. The 
periodic benchmarks caught it, but it was there more for performance benchmarks 
than such glaring functional regressions. However, it also exposed a problem 
with solr-bench: instead of reporting the failed queries as failures, they were 
reported as fast queries (problem with exception handling). I'll address that 
soon.
