Cassandra Targett commented on SOLR-14444:
------------------------------------------

> would it make sense to back port this to 8x? Or is it too much work?

It would be a ton of work. If people actively using Solr are the target
audience, then you'd have to repeat some of the work at least in several
branches and republish. Which would also make the question of dead
links/redirects more critical to resolve. One reason why I merged it was
because it was getting impossible just to keep it in sync with main, I can't
imagine trying to do it all for each of several releases back also.

> SOLR-14173 changed the look & feel of the Ref Guide, and left one glaring
> problem unresolved: our top-level categories are far too many for that sort
> of design.
> This issue will track a full reconsideration of the Ref Guide organization. I
> have a couple of thoughts and will update this issue with those when I get
> started on it; for now this is a placeholder issue for future work.
