Jan Høydahl commented on SOLR-15636:
------------------------------------

This is really exciting, and also a potential good match for SOLR-15694 which
brings node-roles, as it will enable dedicated Solr nodes for ZK only, or ZK +
query-processing. Or ZK + Overseer, making it more stable.

With official support from Zookeeper project, we can  auto configure a ZK
ensemble from native Solr configs and APIs, that is as stable as any other ZK
ensemble, and thus be able to hide Zk even more from users. Whether or not
solr-operator will adopt this mode of operation is up to the operator. It could
continue to spawn dedicated zk pods, or it could start spawning solr pods with
the zk role instead, making sure to start the nodes with zk role first etc. It
will also make upgrades easier, as a new solr version may depend on a new zk
version, and you're able to handle it in a controlled fashion.
