I agree it's odd and likely historical (perhaps at the dawn of M values even existing, where previously just counting the number of dimensions was sufficient). If we run across (more) places where we'd like to experiment with better performance or potentially less confusing behaviour, I wonder if we should use the `sd_xxx` prefix. We can also now pipe through `ConfigOptions` into scalar UDFs to change behaviour based on a `SET option = value` call to opt in to compatibility modes or experimental behaviour. -- This is an automated message from the Apache Git Service.
