I think we could use Escape safely with a modifier, such as Shift + Escape, to
return back to the canvas. As long as we ensure to avoid single letter keyboard
shortcuts and common screen reader keyboard shortcuts [1], any modifier +
Escape should work well.
How many other hotkeys are available? It might be worth considering adding a
link to the nav menu that opens a modal containing a listing of all keyboard
shortcuts.
