I'd like to mention that the KDE team is _always_ short of people.
I don't think we have a single female programmer or even artist.
There is _so_ much to do and _any_ volunteers are welcome. No matter
what your abilities, you're wanted !
If you want to program, there are literally thousands of things that
you could help with. If you want to join the artists, there's still
a lot of work to do even though our icons for KDE 2 are basically
finished. We need desktop wallpapers, widget themes, etc. Especially
we need good corporate-friendly stuff with real style, plus some
fun stuff.
I put out a request a long time ago for people to help make new
artwork, including stuff like a theme for kids. While I did get
responses from the artists team, only a couple of people have
actually done anything.
We're in desperate need of original artwork. I really want to
find a good desktop background for children before KDE 2 !
Testers are also extremely important. We need people to download
snapshots and try stuff out, complaining when they see stuff they
don't like. Suggestions for new ways of working are also important.
We are fairly sure that the desktop paradigm isn't by any means
perfect and we need fresh ideas so that we can start thinking
about design changes before we start working on KDE 3.
We also need people who can write documentation. That doesn't
just mean user manuals. It means tech docs too. It means design
documentation. It means converting the scribblings of a developer
into a well-presented document in a decent format like HTML.
It means help with making our web pages accessible to anyone.
I spent yesterday redesigning the main KDE page so that it's
accessible to anyone whether they're using IE 5, lynx or a
screen reader. The problem is (apart from convincing people
that the site needs redesigning) that doing this for all our
pages requires a lot of work and I'm more a programmer than
a web author so I should be doing what I know how ! :)
Cheers,
Rik
