I was encouraged to subscribe to the linuxchix mailing lists (and to attend
the meetings) because of a female friend of mine.

Most of the men I've mentioned my participation to assume that I'm acting as
some kind of mentor. I generally have to repeat about 3 times that I'm there
to *learn*, and that I just enjoy the tenor of the discussion much more than
in male-dominated fora.
Go figure.
